A couple of months ago, I wrote a post about “Getting Unstuck,” in which I talked about taking the time to get in touch with what truly matters to you and then making sure that your goals are aligned with these deeper values. I wouldn’t be a very good lifestyle professional if I couldn’t follow my own advice.
When starting a new business, there are bound to be missteps, as well as moments of success and celebration. Perhaps the most surprising part of our work at the Highbury Partners Lifestyle Group is how I’ve felt about each of these endeavors. I love helping people live up to their potential and find the things that make them shine, whether that’s the right job or the right relationship. What I’ve discovered is that I also love it when that work connects to something bigger. When it furthers an idea or goal that makes the world a better place. I’ve also come to the realization that helping those who are only interested in helping themselves leaves me feeling empty and unsatisfied. And no one should go through life that way!
I love throwing parties because I value the special memories that party creates for the people involved. But when that event can help make the planet better or raise awareness of a crucial issue, everyone wins! When you can take someone who is a truly good person and help introduce her to a network of people who can amplify her message or her work, everyone wins! And when everyone wins, I truly believe that business will grow and thrive.
Over the next month, we’ll be doing some restructuring here at Highbury as we refocus our work on projects that align with this positive point of view. As always, we’ll keep you posted on some of the things we’re thinking about as we go through this change, and pass along any nuggets of wisdom we find on the journey.
