No matter how good you think your life is, it can always be better.  You can always have more, be more and do more.  We constantly upgrade our televisions, phones and computers, but sometimes we forget to upgrade our lives.  If you don’t take control and push yourself, things will stay exactly the same.  It’s up to you to get your life moving and forward momentum is everything.  Start now, live your life as the person you want to be, the best possible version of yourself.  Live the life of your dreams.

Upgrade your job

You finally got a job at a fantastic restaurant, but did you ever think about starting your own?  Perhaps you have a job you love with no chance of promotion in the near future.  Do you just wait?  There are plenty of steps you can take to improve your situation right now.  Start by composing a killer resume and cover letter.  If there’s an opening at your company but you’re not sure if you’re qualified, go for it anyway.   Show your superiors that your ambitious and interested in advancement, they’ll keep you in mind when the right opportunity comes along.  But don’t stop there.  Apply at other companies in your field.  Sign up for a class that expands your skills and makes you a more attractive candidate.  Open a savings account and arrange for a small portion of each paycheck to automatically go into it.  It’ll grow bigger before you know it and may be the nest egg for a company of your own someday.  Even if you pinch every penny, invest in something that gets you to where you want to be.  Whether it be a tailored interview suit, a new briefcase, a better laptop, or a state of the art sewing machine, treat yourself to whatever gets you closer to your goal.

Upgrade your dating life

This is a three part plan.  First, you must improve the quality of the men you date by raising your standards, choose men who can keep up with you.  Make sure he’s worth your time and effort, and just as importantly, make sure he is willing to put in the time and effort to win you over.  Which leads to step two, upgrade the quality of your dates.  You’re not in high school, so pizza and a movie are no longer acceptable activities for romance.  Being taken out doesn’t just mean out of the house, it means out of your routine.  You should be taken somewhere new, exciting, and different.  If it’s dinner, think dim lighting, table clothes, and exotic cuisine.  For movie nights, go to a specialty theater that plays classic films, opening night of a film festival, or a romantic venue like an outdoor theater under the stars.   Whatever you choose to do it should be memorable.  The last step is to upgrade how you present yourself.  Even if you’ve been working hard all week, there is no excuse for jeans and a t-shirt.  If you expect him to go through all the trouble of planning a perfect evening then he deserves your very best.  Dress up, take the time to do your hair and makeup, and take a nap before getting ready so you are refreshed and energetic throughout the night.  You never know, this might be the start of something incredible.

Upgrade your home

Treat your home like your wardrobe.  Decorate for the life you want, not the one you have.  Start by investing in a few key pieces of real furniture.  A couch not a futon, and a bed frame instead of a mattress on the floor.  Everything on your walls should have value, either real or sentimental. Cabinets with glass doors and miniature spotlights can be used to elegantly display your knick knacks.  Think about your dream house.  What exactly is it that makes it so special?  Do you live in an apartment and wish you had a backyard garden or a lot of land?  Then fill your house with plants or fresh cut flowers, and use balcony space or window sills to grow fresh herbs or a standing garden.  Want to be creative and stylish?  Try a new take on wall art with vertical garden panels.  Do you long for a private spa?  Invest in a massage chair, an acupressure massage mat or a massaging shower head to relieve stress after a hard day’s work.  What about a home theater?  Skip the flat screen TV, buy a projector with a pull-down screen and a surround sound system for when you entertain on movie night.  Your home should be a place where you can relax and be your true self, so make sure it reflects everything you are, including your aspirations for the future.
